When making the case for any kind of independence aid, our recommendation is to focus on independence, autonomy and quality of life. Rather than a sign of needing help, it enables the user to retain independence for longer. Another approach is to speak about the future – the suggestion that they may not need help now, but they could at least look at the options to ‘future proof’ their environment for when they might need more support.
If they are worried that they don’t like the way the furniture looks, then show them some examples from our site. Our chairs don’t look like old people’s chairs, the beds look just like regular beds and the bath lift is unobtrusive even when in use. If the argument is around cost, then explain that the best way to save money is to retain independence. Nothing eats through money like care home fees.
If your person is still adamant that they don’t need help, then it’s more tricky. In this situation, a good way forward is to try out a chair / bed / bath lift. This is where our home consultation service really helps, we can bring the furniture to their home, and they can try it out for themselves. The other benefit is that they can see what it looks like in their home.
If you’d like to arrange a home consultation on their behalf, we’d be happy to help.
