The Bariatric Rise & Recline Chair is a range of chairs made to accommodate larger sizes and weights. With a chair available in 35, 40, 50 and 70 stone, this is the chair you can finally feel comfortable in. Made to fit you properly, the chair comes with a range of leg lift and back rest mechanisms to suit the level of support and comfort you need.
Engineered for what you need
Your Bariatric Rise & Recline Chair can include up to six separate movement mechanisms to ensure you have the support you need – we find that between three and six motors is most common for this chair. During your home visit, we’ll discuss exactly what you need and make a recommendation – but just to give you an idea motor configuration usually depends on:
- Whether you need to elevate your feet to improve circulation and reduce swelling
- How much back support you need
- If you find you need to change position regularly
- Your level of independence
The more motors you need, the more expensive the chair, so we’ll work with you to find the best chair at a price that you’re happy with.
The Rise Function
You activate the rise function from the handset and the chair will return to the seated position before slowly beginning to lift, transferring your weight from hips to the knees, ready to stand. You can stop the mechanism at the perfect position for you to stand easily, and the chair will remain in this position until you return.

Easy operation with a simple controller
Rise and recline movements are operated by a simple hand-controller placed for easy access on the arm of the chair. The buttons are backlit and easy to use with large icons. There is also an on/off function so you can turn the whole thing off when you know you’re not going anywhere for a while.
How much do our Rise and Recline chairs cost?
Naturally you want to know the price, so here is an explanation. We have heaps of options, and our chairs are tailor-made, so it is very rare that two are sold for the same price. Having said that, over the past 12 months, the cheapest Rise and Recline chair we have sold was £1,325 and the most expensive was £5,250, with the average selling for £3,325. Things that affect the price include: The weight of the user; the materials chosen; the number of motors; the heating element; and the massage function.
You might see something online that looks similar at a fraction of that cost, but it will also only be a fraction as good and last a fraction as long. The first part of the process is choosing at the movement mechanism that’s right for you. You have three to choose from:
Single Motor Tilt in Space
A good choice if you suffer from swollen ankles or poor circulation as you can raise your feet higher than your heart.
Dual Motor Riser Recliner Chair
The leg-rest and back-recline mechanism move independently, a real help if you have skeletal issues or want to change position regularly.
Quad Motor Riser Recliner Chair
High leg lift with independent movement in legs, neck, lumbar and back to get as comfortable as possible.

The Bariatric Chair comes in two different arm styles, and we have a couple of swinging or removable arm options if you are going to and from a wheelchair.

With the mechanism and style sorted, now’s your chance to really go to town with the upholstery.
You can choose from thousands of different fabrics, including washable, waterproof and leather, with each type of fabric available in a huge range of colours and patterns. From Consultation to Delivery – What to Expect

Free Home Demonstration
A RiseUp Furniture Consultant will bring a sample chair or bed to your home for you to try out.
You can explain what you need and they’ll take your measurements for your made to measure furniture. You will also be able to browse through a complete catalogue of styles and fabrics, so you can choose something that’s perfect for you.

Bespoke Manufacture
Your bespoke item is promptly hand-made for you by proper crafts-people at our British workshop, then rigorously checked and tested to to BSI standards.
We’ll keep you up to date right through the process so you know how things are going.
Then it’s lovingly packed and ready for step three – speedy delivery.

Delivery and Installation
Your furniture will be delivered within 2-3 weeks. We’ll install it exactly where you want it and remove your old chair, sofa or bed. Your furniture consultant will be there at delivery to make sure it fits you as it’s designed to, show you how to use it, and make sure you’re 100% happy with it. Your furniture consultant will be in touch after a week or so to check that you’re happy with your new furniture and answer any questions you might have.
